Canada’s meat and Atlantic seafood processors have a long, successful history in Canada. Today they are challenged by a new reality – a labour market characterized by persistent constrains on their ability to recruit and retain qualified employees.
Canada’s meat and Atlantic seafood processors have a long, successful history in Canada, but today they are challenged by a new reality – a labour market characterized by persistent constraints on their ability to recruit and retain qualified employees. As a result, they are struggling and many are unable to effectively grow their businesses and take advantage of increasing consumer demand for Canadian meat and seafood products. The Food Processing HR Council (FPHRC), supported by the federal government
and in collaboration with the meat and Atlantic Canada seafood industries is undertaking a comprehensive labour market study which will – for the first time – accurately measure the constraints on labour in the Canadian meat and Atlantic seafood processing sectors and identify practical recommendations to address these constraints and, in the future, help processors attract and retain a more professional workforce.
